It’s been a while since I’ve come here to post. I’ve had a lot going on. I have completed nine songs for this next album and have sent them off for critique before I seal the deal and launch the second album. I am pretty happy about this one. I feel like I worked with new techniques and added some depth to my songs, things that I don’t think I did incredibly well last time. This album was also more fun to make and again includes my oldest son in one of the songs which I love.
I’ve started working with techniques from Ableton’s new book that is challenging me to go further with my work. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of “active listening”. It’s been really awesome to create time to just sit and listen to music. Really listen. I’ve been picking out some favorites and focusing on the sounds, transitions, and all of the other various elements of them and taking notes to use for creating works of my own. How often do we really just listen to music anyway? most of the time we’re in our car, cleaning house, or have it on as “background” while hanging out at home, working in the yard or having a meal. I highly recommend it.
I have a lot of other ideas for new albums. My main obstacle right now is having a very active 15 month old and production can only really happen when he’s sleeping and that time is limited to two hours during the day and then we he heads to bed for the night. I do what I can and I know it will get better as he gets older. I just really try and balance my time with him and give some to myself. He will never be this age again and I don’t want to miss it. It is tough sometimes however when I am feeling inspired and I just can’t sit down to go with that inspiration at that moment.
Also another cool thing, my music is being used on the Whistle customer service line! I guess I can add that to my musical resume! It’s nice to feel like I am growing and evolving in a good direction with my music. I don’t need to be a superstar. I just want a few people to really get it and love it.
